Not to be outdone but it takes balls to go head to head w Stevie on release day. @EarthWindAndFire did JUST that —-I know I sound like grandpa and all but #SongsInTheKeyOfLife vs #Spirit was the 76 version of #Graduation vs #Curtis in 2006 for Ye/50. This holds a special place with me for this will have been the penultimate lp in the production swan song of the great #CharlesStepney (basically? The #Jdilla of his day, lush off kilter arrangements & had a spectrum of colors in his synesthesiaesa-esque pallet of string arranging——) having produced #ThatsTheWayOfTheWorld & #Gratitude he helped EWF find its SOUND (I’m not mad at #JoeWissert’s work on the first 3 EWF Columbia offerings but man——Stepney was OTHER WORLDLY)—-he passed away in the tail end of the record & this would effect the organization greatly (Maurice White leaned HEAvy On Charles to help make decisions——and now the decisions were up to Maurice. #AllNAll (77) is EWF’s magnum opus but I’m certain not having a wingman to bounce ideas off of was a hard mountain to climb (most EWF fans speculate that perhaps the yachtage sound of David Foster for 79’s I Am woulda not been a factor had CS lived. & 80’s “Faces” woulda been way more focused.Woulda/Coulda/Shoulda.This day is right up there w Nov 9 93 for hip hop.
