CloZee Returns To Thrill The Bay Area With Goopsteppa (B.Getz on L4LM)

International shooting star CloZee returned to the Bay Area over New Year’s week, unveiling a thrilling ninety-minute set. The sold-out engagement was hosted by  Wormhole Entertainment and Euphonic Conceptions, and took place at burgeoning Berkeley nightspot UC Theater. The French composer/producer arrived in fine form, delivering a non-stop adventure through song, emotion, and dance, gliding through melodies and energies harnessed from CloZee’s travels around the globe.

Born Chloe Henry and hailing from Toulouse, in the South of France, CloZee’s been on the grind since releasing her debut record Ockefilms Soundtrack in 2012. For the better part of the last four years, hers has been a thunderous explosion to the top, and CloZee was recently announced on the 2019 Coachella lineup as well.

Instant classic sets from Envision Festival in Costa Rica, Electric Forest, and Suwannee Hulaween have cemented her status as a serious concert draw, and has proven herself deserving of the bold font. The seismic-buzz surrounding CloZee in both the electronic music culture and across myriad festivals has only been heightened in the wake of her most recent full-length LP Evasion, released to several rave reviews earlier this year. CloZee took the stage humbly and assertively, but her confidence and mojo were on display right away. She wasted no time getting down to business, uncorking massive takes on both her own wildly-popular tracks, and some seminal cuts from her favorite producers.

Of course, she touched on some of her most popular original numbers, including “Koto” and “Secret Place”, and CloZee was sure to reveal a handful of phenomenal remixes of her own work, material re-imagined by her friends and peers in the industry. CloZee was joined by several performance artists who danced in front of her DJ console, offering acrobatic accompaniment, swimming in lights and lasers galore.

CloZee is currently touring in support of Evasion, which dropped on October 5th of this year. When asked about what inspires her to create such resonant art, CloZee had this to say in a recent press release:

“Traveling, landscapes, other art and artists. Many many things inspire me. All of my tracks have different stories, but the main ideas I’m trying to communicate are always positive, motivating; I want the listeners to love, feel at peace with themselves, and feel like they can overcome any challenges in their lives.”

Earlier in the evening, sets from GNOME and Spoken Bird warmed up the capacity crowd at UC Theater. Before CloZee hit, the swollen Bay Area massive was treated to an otherworldly journey in sound captained by British Columbia’s prodigal son Goopsteppa. Like the headliner, this young Canadian lion has earned quite the reputation over the past few years, making waves for a potent brand of minimalist post-dubstep, always his own creation. Mixing in new tracks from forthcoming releases, amid beloved numbers from Blossoms and Through the Dark, Goopsteppa made sure his presence was firmly felt by way of a touch ever-so-soft; the producer’s soundscapes bathing in white light amid shadows and torrid dance routines. We can only hope Goop is invited back to the Bay Area soon, this time with his name on the top of the marquee.
